This key staff member will work with clients and AloTerra leadership on site analysis, restoration design, construction oversight, water resources, and related project and program-related work. Tasks may include conducting and/or overseeing wetland delineations, baseline inventories, and riparian functional assessments; performing botanical and plant community surveys; developing permit applications; planning a wide range of mitigation and restoration projects in all habitat zones; ; and collaborating with regulatory agencies and project partners. The Senior Restoration Ecologist will work with scientists, engineers, landscape architects, biologists, and other professionals across public and private sectors to develop interdisciplinary solutions to complex problems. They will work to help clients meet ecological and regulatory goals and prepare graphical and text depictions of restoration treatments and reports required for client review, permitting, implementation, and monitoring of natural resource and restoration projects. This person is responsible for training and mentorship for a variety of AloTerra staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in ecology, restoration, botany, hydrology, soil science, or similar natural resources field
  • 10 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with Colorado state and federal regulations and permitting processes including wetland delineation, permitting (CWA 404, CDPHE, USFWS/ESA Section 7, Local Development Codes) and mitigation requirements
  • Must have strong understanding of Colorado botany and plant community ecology to develop revegetation strategies, detailed seed mixes and plant palettes, bioengineering, and other ecological treatments. Additionally, must have a strong working knowledge of soil surface protection and bank stabilization techniques appropriate to Colorado ecosystems
  • Working knowledge of primary soil chemical and organic constituents, and the interaction between soils, vegetation, and soil surface protection to inform design solutions
  • Field experience conducting wetland delineations, riparian health assessments, botanical and/or environmental characterization studies
  • Experience working and negotiating cooperatively with local, state, and federal regulators
  • Experience with managing and leading project teams
  • Construction oversite experience with the ability to teach and guide construction crews on the proper techniques for restoration implementation
  • 5+ years experience with software design tools (GIS, Civil 3D/AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with project team members, regulators, and clients
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from AloTerra now or in the future
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $80,000–$120,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.
